The following is an honest review of Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter and my suggested age rating.
Synopsis of Better Than the Movies
Liz Buxbaum has always been a romance lover. Liz and her mom stayed up watching romcoms together countless times, they were apart of her. She knew exactly what she wanted in a guy and who was the perfect male lead. You may think the “boy next door” is a great candidate for this lead but you are so wrong. Wes Bennett is a menace and the last person Liz would ever fall for. But when her long term crush Michael moves back, Liz needs help from Wes to secure a movie worthy prom moment. Slowly, but surely, Liz realizes happily ever after isn’t always like the movies, it’s better.
Review of Better Than the Movies
First off, anything that is has romcom references AND a playlist in the book is bound to be amazing. Better than the Movies is absolutely perfect for romcom lovers, people who obsess over making playlists for every scenario, and try to control their own fate. Predictable but worth it.
This is a typical but perfect YA romance. You’ve got family issues, grief, friendship, identity, first love, all of the things. We really see Liz grow in so many ways, she lets go of many things while holding on to who she is. I loved Wes and Liz’s relationship, their relationship was very believable.
I can’t wait to read all of Lynn Painter’s books now!
I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads.
