The following is an honest review of The Wicked King by Holly Black and my suggested age rating.
The following will contain spoilers for The Cruel Prince
When Jude shocks Faerie by revealing Oak’s connection to the crown as heir; it is dire that she keeps him safe. Everyone believes Cardan is the king but behind the scenes, he is under Jude’s control. She is surprised by his cooperation and confused by her feelings towards him. It is also revealed that someone close to Jude will betray her and possibly hurt everyone she loves. Jude must hold her head high as she navigates ruling Faerie as a mortal.
Review of The Wicked King
OKAY FIRST OFF what the actual heck is wrong with Taryn. Everyone is sooo unlikeable. I love romance books but… this was just like “oh by the way Jude and Cardan don’t hate each other.” Like when and what happened that made their feelings change??? I just don’t understand. I did love the undersea aspect and found the little bit of world building we got to be very interesting. However, I still don’t understand why this series is praised so much. I’ve read better that isn’t even half as popular.
This may “offend” some people, but I also don’t understand why Jude is praised as the strong female character. She makes some stupiddd choices. Jude is like “oh my gosh everyone is so selfish, now I’m gonna act like everyone I hate.” Like…. ma’am. That is called being hypocritical, I’m sorry?
I gave The Wicked King 3.5/5 stars on Goodreads
