The following is an honest review of Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey and my suggested age rating.
Madeline Moore a lover of books, works at Books & Moore an indie bookstore that her family has owned for generations. She has big plans to take the store over after she comes back from college. But, when the new chain bookstore Prologue opens across the street, she isn’t sure their store will be open for that long. It just so happens that Jasper, employee of the enemy is super cute. Madeline vows to overlook that and take Prologue down.
Review of Last Chance Books
Not to sound harsh but I hated this book. I almost dnfed it so many times but I just wanted to finish it so that I could write this review.
Reason 1: I can handle *some* language in a book but this was RIDICULOUS. It was to the point where it didn’t even make sense. So much so, that I often just laughed out loud. Like how many times can you say “f-ing” something before you realize it sounds stupid.
Reason 2: The inappropriate “jokes” in the book were also ridiculous. I feel like there was lots the author wanted to say, she just threw things in there and it didn’t even fit the context.
Reason 3: I was NEVER rooting for the mc. She is so unlikeable. Madeline is an impatient person, who overreacts and victimizes every situation. She was just such a hateful character unless everything was perfect for her.
Reason 4: I LOVE the movie you’ve got mail about two rival bookstores. The synopsis of this book sounded just like that movie and I found this book to be extremely disappointing. It seemed like they didn’t even care about the bookstore all of the sudden and I legit sat there like “what just happened?”
Reason 5: POOR JASPAR! WHYYY. Why did he lower himself dow to Madeline he is too good for her.
I’ll stop there, but to quote my official Goodreads review “at least the cover is cute”
I gave Last Chance Books 2/5 stars on Goodreads
