The following is an honest review of The Simple Wild (book 1 of 4) by K.A. Tucker and my suggested age rating.
Synopsis of The Simple Wild
The Simple Wild follows Calla, a city girl from Toronto who still lives with her mom and step-dad. Calla has lived there her whole life, except for when her mom and dad were still married. That’s when she lived in Alaska. She hasn’t had much of a relationship with her dad especially since he stayed behind in Alaska after her mom left. One day she receives a phone call from her dad’s friend informing her that her dad has cancer. Calla is torn on whether to rush to Alaska or not, after all, he hasn’t really been there for her growing up. She can’t shake the feeling that she’ll regret it if she doesn’t go, so she decides to take a chance.
As soon as she gets to Alaska she has the “pleasure” of meeting one of her dad’s employees at his charter plane company: Jonah. Jonah is rude, gruff, and basically a big ol’ grump. But one thing is for sure, he has a deep admiration for Calla’s dad Wren. During her time in Alaska Calla must lay aside many prejudices, not just about Alaska but about her dad. Will she ever be able to have the relationship with him that she wanted as a girl? Will Jonah ever cut her some slack and see her as anything more than a “Barbie?”
Review of The Simple Wild
I could rave about this book and the entire series infinitely. I will forever compare any romance book I read to this series from now on, it is just that perfect. What I loved most about it was that while it is considered a romance, there are other elements that are just as wonderful. This is a sweet romance but it is also a heart-warming story of family, friends, and finding yourself. I loved every single character and found them each to be valuable in their own way to the story.
I gave this book 4.5 stars/5 on Goodreads (the reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars is because the sexual content was a little much for me personally)
Age Rating for The Simple Wild
This book contains language, talks of cancer, sexual content, and divorce. Mainly because of the sexual content I would agree with this book being an adult romance and give it an age rating of 18+.
