The following is a honest review of Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and my suggested age rating.
Daisy Jones and The Six were a legendary rock band of the 1970’s who are still talked about today. However, no one really knows what happened that tore the band apart and caused their shocking break up. Everyone saw Daisy Jones and The Six as a band with great chemistry and a group of people that knew how to have a good time. But there is always more to the story and until now no one knew what caused their break up. Daisy is a young girl who began getting noticed for her incredible voice, but cared more about the thrill of life. She was young and beautiful. She could get all the drugs she wanted and anyone she wanted. By twenty she was getting noticed more and more; some people noticed her talent, but everyone noticed her beauty. The Six were led by Billy Dunne the only sober rock star that had it all figured out. On the eve of their first tour, Camila, Billy’s girlfriend, reveals that she is pregnant. Billy says he will remain loyal to Camila but Billy proceeds to go wild on the road. Daisy and Billy eventually cross paths when a producer realizes that Daisy Jones and The Six together will change the music industry. What they didn’t realize is that they would become a legend for more reasons than one.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster in so many ways. I mean, wow. This was my second Taylor Jenkins Reid book, my first being Malibu Rising. I’m not sure which is my favorite but I do know that Taylor Jenkins Reid is worth all the hype. She has not disappointed me and I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
First off I’ll rant about the characters and realism of this story. I loved to love and hate all the characters individually as well as the varying relationships between each other. The relationships, drama, love, hate, and passion that all these characters had and experienced was phenomenal. I felt like I was really reading an interview about a real rock band from the 70’s such as Fleetwood Mac (who I’m a huge fan of).
I try to keep these reviews on the shorter side but I could go on talking about this book forever. If anyone has read this feel free to message me on Instagram so we can talk about our feelings together lol. This book had a lot of sad and heart wrenching moments as well as a few happier ones. I don’t tend to ever get emotional about books but this one hit me in the feels real good. You really were able to see and learn to understand all the characters and their struggles.
ALSO can we just take a minute to talk about the fact that Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote full songs for this book. THE COMMITMENT IS UNREAL. I could cry reading the lyrics alone.
I gave this book a 5/5 stars on goodreads.
This book is appropriate for anyone ages 15 and up. There is lots of drugs and alcohol use as well as sexual content without detail and language. Trigger Warnings: addiction, drugs, and alcohol.
