The following is a honest review and my suggested age rating for A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir, the fourth and final book of the An Ember in the Ashes Series.
Synopsis of A Sky Beyond the Storm
This books picks up right where A Reaper at the Gates leaves off. The entire world is threatened by the attacks lead by the jinn’s leader: the Nightbringer and his ally the Commandant. It seems in addition to wreaking havoc on the world, Keris Venturia is also set on destroying the rightful heirs to the Martial throne. This leaves the Blood Strike with the burden of keeping her sister, the Empress Regent, and her son and heir to the throne Zacharias alive. While Laia and the Blood Strike are working together to destroy the Nightbringer, Laia learns secrets hidden within herself. Elias is still working hard to keep the Waiting Place intact, yet something is disrupting the balance. Together, they must embark on a journey that will put them to the test in every way possible. By uncovering the truth they may just discover a way to restore their world.
Review of A Sky Beyond the Storm
I do not have enough words or time to relay how much I love this series. An Ember in the Ashes is one of those rare books that reminds you why reading is so magical. Whenever you start a book knowing it is the last in a series it is bittersweet, but this book could not have wrapped up the series more perfectly. I love Sabaa Tahir’s writing style and her ability to fluidly shift the perspectives of the characters. Rarely in a series can you say you love all of its main characters equally, but this is the case for me. This series truly has everything. It has action/adventure, the perfect amount of romance, fantasy elements, drama, but the kind that truly pulls at your heart strings. I cried when this book ended which RARELY EVER HAPPENS. I think it was mostly because I was sad it was over. If you were on the fence about starting this series, wait no longer. You will NOT be disappointed!
I gave this book, and every book in this series 5/5 stars on Goodreads.
My suggested Age Rating for A Sky Beyond the Storm
Because this book takes place in the middle of a civil war, there is a great deal of fighting/killing. This book contains the most romance/sexual content of the series but it is not graphic. I would give this book an age rating of 14+.
