The following is an honest review of Wild is the Witch by Rachel Griffin and my suggested age rating.
Synopsis of Wild is the Witch
Iris Gray is an eighteen-year-old witch who runs a wildlife refuge with her mom in Washington. One day Iris concocts a curse to turn her coworker Pike into a witch. However, just as she’s dispelling the curse, a powerful amplifier swoops down and flies off with the curse. Thus begins a journey to track down the bird before it dies and releases the curse upon the entire region.
Review of Wild is the Witch
I am a huge I mean majorrrr Nature of Witches fan, so when I heard her next novel was one about witches in the pnw I was stoked. However, I feel like this one felt a bit rushed. I loved the plot and adored the characters, but everything just felt rushed which was a letdown.
Rachel Griffin knows how to write romance. I loved the banter between Iris and Pike and found their romance to be very believable. ALSO this book totally gets bonus points for the cover and naked hardback alone literally gorgeous. I read this book so fast, you were never bored and always wanted to know what was going to happen. Once again, the writing was incredibly atmospheric and cozy. I loved the aspect of animal magic vs elemental in The Nature of Witches.
Age Rating of Wild is the Witch
I would give Wild is the Witch an Age Rating of 14 and up. There is some language, romance, and heavy themes such as struggling with grief, and death.
