Review of Blade of Secrets
At the time I decided to pick up this book it was one of Barnes and Noble’s monthly picks. I love fantasy books in general but this one especially piqued my interest because of the magical weapons. Let me just say, this book was a bit disappointing from the beginning. I read young adult books often so I am not one to hold young adult fantasy books to an adult fantasy standard. The dialogue in this book though had me literally smacking myself in the face. It was SO juvenile that it was almost unbearable at the beginning. Eventually, I felt like the author got into a rhythm and the dialogue improved/recovered. However, in the beginning, I almost put it down because I couldn’t get past it.
After finishing this book I will say the storyline is interesting. The characters do grow on you even after the beginning when I found them slightly annoying. I feel like the last quarter of the book is where most of the action happened and it ends on a cliffhanger (since this is a dualogy).
Overall I enjoyed this story but in my opinion there are better young adult fantasy books out there. I gave this book 3/5 stars on Goodreads.
