The following is an honest review of The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw and my suggested age rating.
Synopsis of The Wicked Deep
The small ocean town of Sparrow is believed to be cursed. Two centuries ago its residents murdered the three Swan sisters by tying them up and throwing them into the sea. Their crime? Witchery. Each summer following, the Swan sisters come back for a week by inhabiting the bodies of three girls and taking revenge by drowning boys. The residents of Sparrow have accepted this as their fate and even benefit from it as tourist flock to the town each summer to watch the horrible events unfold. This summer a new boy arrives named Bo, who is unaware of Sparrow’s history and its present. Bo meets a local girl named Penny whose own father has gone missing without a trace. Together they must resist the return of the Swan sisters and fight to stay alive.
Review of The Wicked Deep
This was my first Shea Ernshaw book and the first witchy book to carry me into the autumn season. Both were perfect combinations. I immediately fell in love with Shea Ernshaw’s writing and knew she would be an instant read for me from now on.
The Wicked Deep is beautiful and lyrical and reads like a fairy tale. The characters, setting, and plot are all easy to immerse yourself into. I absolutely loved this story and would recommend it to anyone looking for an atmospheric read.
I gave The Wicked Deep 4/5 stars on Goodreads.
